The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride - riding for men’s health

At Newcastle Railway Station On Sunday 22/5/2022

Just a Quick recap on what its about:

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride unites classic and vintage style motorcycle riders all over the world to raise funds and awareness for prostate cancer research and men’s mental health.

The Distinguished Gentleman’s Ride was founded in Sydney, Australia, by Mark Hawwa. It was inspired by a photo of TV Show Mad Men’s Don Draper astride a classic bike and wearing his finest suit.

Mark decided a themed ride would be a great way of connecting niche motorcycle enthusiasts and communities while raising funds to support the men in our lives.

This is a very worthwhile fund raiser and has 115 countries participating worldwide. It has raised $US31.6 million since 2012.

In spite of the weather. which was rainy and rather dismal, the ride went ahead with about 180 of the registered riders taking part.

A few businesses braved the weather and set up marques along with 2 mobile food vans.

Plenty of undercover seating, and the heavy rain held off until just after the riders left at 10am. It poured down and some returned, but the majority did the ride and returned drenched.

There were Lots of different motorcycles and their riders, sticking with the theme, dressed in their finest gear looking very distinguished indeed.

All in all it was a lot of fun.

Also, a shout out for Russel the dog, who rode in wearing his jacket and goggles, and accompanied his proud mum and dad on the ride. He is a real trouper and the rain didn’t seem to faze him. He changed into his tuxedo for the walk around, and I may have gone a bit overboard with photos of him. He is just so cute.

So here are the photos I took today. Cruise through them and you may spot yourself.
