This 1977 Honda Z50J Monkey arrived here in March 2021 and was in very poor condition.

We will have to source many parts.

It has a mixture of chrome and plastic parts which all have to be replaced.

The handlebars are bent.

The frame is rusty and in poor condition.

The engine is a mess.

UPDATE

The frame has been taken back to bare metal, rewelded and sprayed black.

The tank has been cleaned and out restored.

The old battered chrome and plastic parts have all been replaced.

It was a real journey trying to source parts as they are in very short supply. Some things we had to make.

  • New Chrome handlebars and mudguards

  • Engine has been rebuilt using all new parts, gaskets, seals and bearings.

  • all engine covers repaired and painted Honda silver.

  • Handle bars, foot pegs, stand, all repaired and painted Honda High Gloss black

  • Exhaust pipe repaired and painted in High Temp matt black

  • many other parts replaced.

It is slowly being reassembled as parts are sourced.


 
 
 

UPDATE

Engine has now been rebuilt using all new parts, gaskets, seals and bearings.

Head has been cleaned, machined and new valves and guides fitted.

The tail light bracket and Tail Light has been installed.

Wheels are now assembled with new bearings and new tyres fitted.

Brakes have been blasted and relined.

 

UPDATE

Engine is being test run and all functions checked.

A new wiring harness has been fitted and all connections need to be finalized

 

COMPLETED PROJECT

This 1977 Honda Z50J Monkey now runs smoothly and looks

brand new.

It took a while to source the parts and the final stumbling block was getting and waiting for the new kickstart to arrive.

Its now sparkling with its new paint work and decals and goes like a dream.
